Farmer gets all his corn planted, finally

A west central Missouri farmer says he finally got all his corn planted in between almost constant rain, “Our earliest corn was mid-May and we mudded some in. And then we actually had a good week the first week of June and got it all planted but one field got rained out. We actually finished up corn the 10th of June.”

Mike Moreland says he made the decision not to replant any corn, “We’ve got some thin stands in placed. But, overall, I think we assessed the situation and decided just to leave it.”

Moreland has compassion for those farmers who aren’t able to plant, “My heart still goes out to all our fellow farmers that are still flooded. We’re delayed but there are so many that probably won’t even be able to plant a crop this year.”

Moreland, who farms north of Harrisonville, is chairman of the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council.
