Farmer: consumer education still needed for renewable fuels

Southern Indiana Farmer Dave Gottbrath says many farmers would benefit from growth in the ethanol industry, but there is a lot of consumer confusion that must be addressed for that to happen.

“It’s the public that doesn’t understand the difference in octane and there’s so much misinformation out there that keeps being sent around and around again,” he says.

Gottbrath says he would tell consumers that ethanol is a safe and affordable fuel option.

“The many millions of miles that’s been driven on E15 already is important, it hasn’t caused problems,” he says.

Gottbrath spoke to Brownfield at the High Octane Fuel Summit by the Indiana Corn Growers Association.

The event brought together producers, retailers, automakers, and other stakeholders and highlighted the need for doing a better job of explaining what renewable fuels are to consumers.
