Farmer considering replanting after rain

Western Indiana Farmer Kevin Cox says his farm has received about 8 inches of rain since he wrapped up planting in May.

“So we’re going to have some drowned out areas,” he says. “The challenge with that is today they’re still standing full of water so by the time it gets dry enough to be able to go in and try to spot any of that it’s going to be mid-June.”

He says they may have to replant some crops.

“It’s going to be a challenge trying to figure out is there going to be a benefit to coming in and replanting at that time or whether just to cut our losses and let it go,” he says.

Cox tells Brownfield crop stands aren’t as good as he had hoped.

“I think that we’re more than good enough to get by, but we’re not going to have the optimum stands we had hoped for because emergence hasn’t been as consistent as we would have liked,” he says.

Cox grows corn and soybeans in Clay and Parke counties.
