Farm Bureau says more could be done in Indo-Pacific

American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall says a trade deal would have a greater impact than the Biden administration’s renewed strategy for the Indo-Pacific.

The Biden administration recently outlined its strategy for trade in the Indo-Pacific, which includes countries within the Indian and parts of the Pacific Oceans, with a focus on free and open trade that’s connected and secure.

It is not meant to serve as a replacement for the Trans-Pacific Partnership which the U.S. is no longer part of or a new trade deal, but rather a strengthening of alliances.

Duvall says while the approach is appreciated and will remove barriers for ag exports, more is needed to outline consistent standards and reduce tariffs which multilateral trade agreements in the region could do.
