Farm Bill hearings offer farmers a voice

The President of the Michigan Farm Bureau says the farm bill field hearing this weekend provides an opportunity for farmers to voice their concerns and priorities to lawmakers.

Carl Bednarski tells Brownfield their members want to see dairy addressed in the next farm bill.  “Dairy is really going through some tough times right now and there’s not a quick fix out there, but with the recent Canadian ruling on a different class of milk, it’s compounded the issue.”  He says risk management and maintaining a safety net are also important issues for farmers.

Bednarski says the witnesses set to testify have diverse backgrounds and will address a wide variety of topics in the farm bill.  “You can come and just hear from those individuals on those industries that perhaps you are not aware of.  It’s a great opportunity for both Senators to hear what’s happening in Michigan and hearing it actually at the ground level.”

The Senate Ag Committee’s second 2018 Farm Bill hearing is set for this Saturday in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
