Export inspections continue to trail last year

 

The USDA reports that as of the week ending December 28th, 2017, grain and oilseed export inspections continue to be slower than what’s needed to meet projections for the 2017/18 marketing year.

Wheat came out at 274,506 tons, down 245,035 from the week ending December 21st and 132,526 lower than the week ending December 29th, 2016. For the 2017/18 marketing year to date, wheat inspections are 14,530,209 tons, compared to 15,537,849 a little more than halfway through 2016/17.

Corn was reported at 683,898 tons, up 64,005 from the previous week and 45,321 higher than this time last year. Just over a quarter into the marketing year, corn inspections are 10,536,536 tons, compared to 17,049,258 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 1,139,436 tons, 143,764 less than the week before and 449,404 below last year. At this point in the marketing year, soybean inspections are 28,317,221 tons, compared to 33,002,359 a year ago.

Sorghum inspections totaled 122,915 tons. That’s an increase of 37,369 tons on the week and 57,616 on the year. 2017/18 sorghum inspections are 1,640,608 tons, compared to 1,788,014 in 2016/17.
