Export Exchange talks include War in Ukraine and inland waterway system

Grain buyers from more than 50 countries are in Minneapolis this week discussing trade.

U.S. Grains Council CEO Ryan LeGrand says Export Exchange brings about 250 international customers together, and the War in Ukraine is on everyone’s mind.

“And the fallout that’s causing, the lack of shipments out of the Black Sea is really causing a lot of headaches for buyers who are here with us. Fortunately the United States is a great place for them to turn for a reliable supply in these times.”

He tells Brownfield the movement of grain domestically is also top of mind.

“As the Mississippi River water levels are very low, causing real problems on our main shipping artery in the middle of the country.”

LeGrand points to trade policy as another concern with many countries taking a protectionist approach and says working through that has been a real challenge.

Export Exchange is sponsored by USGC, Growth Energy, and the Renewable Fuels Association.
