Ethanol production, stocks up on week

U.S. ethanol production grew last week, while the domestic supply inched higher.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says production averaged 961,000 barrels a day, up 20,000 on the week and the highest daily average since widespread COVID-19 shutdowns began in March, but that is still down 53,000 from a year ago.

The Renewable Fuels Association says ethanol blending inputs and the volume of gasoline supplied to the market both posted week to week and year to year declines.

The supply of 19.675 million barrels was 74,000 higher than the previous week, but 2.199 million lower than this time last year.

U.S. ethanol imports averaged 29,000 barrels a day, a seven week high and the 11th out of the last 15 weeks with recorded imports.

The RFA says September’s ethanol exports of 77.2 million gallons dropped 23% from August and 20% from September 2019, but exports of distillers dried grains with solubles were 1.16 million tons, a jump of 14% on the month and the largest monthly volume in five years.

The USDA’s next corn for ethanol use is out November 10th.
