Ethanol production jumps after E15 confirmation

U.S. ethanol production shot higher last week following the confirmation of year-round E15 availability.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says production averaged 1.096 million barrels a day, up 52,000 from the week before, as the industry responded to demand expectations.

Increased blending demand pulled stocks to an 11-month low, dropping 751,000 barrels to 21.082 million.

The USDA expects 5.5 billion bushels of corn to be used for ethanol production this marketing year, which runs through the end of August.
