Ethanol production down, stocks up

U.S. ethanol production slid a little last week, while stocks climbed.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says ethanol production averaged 922,000 barrels a day, down 9,000 from the previous week and 91,000 lower than a year ago because of the continued concerns about blending demand due to COVID-19. Blending demand did improve a little, but also remains below year ago levels, and the amount of gasoline supplied to the market was lower than both the week before and last year.

Stocks were 473,000 barrels higher at 20.882 million, but that is still 2.919 million under a year ago because of production slowdowns earlier this year.

The Renewable Fuels Association says the U.S. import 10.58 million gallons of ethanol last week, likely from Brazil, the fifth round of imports reported over the last six weeks.

The USDA’s next corn for ethanol use estimate is out September 11th.
