Ethanol industry facing “worst crisis in history”
The impacts from COVID-19 have crippled the ethanol industry, with more than 70 plants completely shut down and less than 60 able to operate at near-normal capacity.
Renewable Fuels Association CEO Goeff Cooper shared the numbers with reporters Monday afternoon.
“I think it’s not an exaggeration to say that we are experiencing the worst crisis in the industry’s 40-year history.”
Cooper says they were disappointed to see the $19 billion aid package announced by the USDA Friday left the 350,000 workers supported by the ethanol industry behind.
“While we appreciate that the package provides assistance to farmers and ranchers, it is hard for us to understand why our nation’s ethanol producers were excluded.”
Cooper says he is hopeful their outreach efforts will result in aid for ethanol in future assistance packages and reminds everyone that ethanol plants do make other products like livestock feed, corn distillers’ oil and CO2 for medical uses.

Ethanol is a go no were exspensive joke 2008 , I sold my 2004 blue devil Corvette and my 2007 Prius it was getting 68 mpg once they dumped the ethanol in dane county Wisconsin my prius dropped to 45 mpg . my vet computer’s lite was on due to ethanol missfires . Now that the ethanol plants are shutting we have blue skies like we had before the plants started up .
