Ethanol, farm groups send E15 letter to Trump

A letter addressed to the President is the latest attempt by pro-ethanol groups seeking immediate action on year-round E15 sales.

Renewable Fuels Association executive vice president Geoff Cooper tells Brownfield the integrity of the Renewable Fuel Standard has been compromised, and says the letter calls for answers and action from the Trump Administration.

“We’re just trying to do anything we can to get our message in front of the President, and ask when is this announcement coming that’s been promised for the last several months dating back to April?”

The letter, signed by RFA, the National Corn Growers, American Farm Bureau, and others, noted ethanol prices, RIN credit prices, and ethanol profit margins are falling.

Cooper says the lack of movement on E15 after Secretary Perdue said President Trump called him at the Farm Progress Show prompted the letter.

“You go back to August 29th, that’s just two weeks ago, Secretary Perdue did tell the crowd (at Farm Progress) that he had spoken with President Trump that very morning and that an announcement was coming the following week.  Well, that was last week.”

The groups wrote “With ethanol prices hitting a 13-year low and net farm incomes plummeting to half of the record $123 billion achieved in 2013, an announcement on year-round E15 could not come at a more critical juncture for Rural America.”
