EPA targeted in Trump’s budget

The Environmental Protection Agency is marked to take the biggest hit in the Trump administration’s 2018 budget.

The proposed 30-and-a-half percent cut makes the greatest reductions to environmental research, enforcement of clean air and water programs, and eliminates funding for regional programs including the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

U.S. Senate Ag Committee Ranking member and Co-Chair of the Great Lakes Task Force Debbie Stabenow released a statement saying proposed cuts to the initiative were stopped for the 2017 fiscal year and she plans to continue fighting to protect the Great Lakes.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt says the budget reduces redundancies and inefficiencies while supporting the agency’s highest priorities.
