EPA suspends plan to reveal oil refineries that received RFS waivers

The Trump Administration is taking heat for backpedaling on being more transparent about oil refinery exemptions.

U.S. Senator Tina Smith, a Democrat from Minnesota, says the EPA has abandoned its promise to publish the names of refiners that have received RFS waivers.

“It is a big problem, and it’s costing the renewable fuels industry. And I’m just strongly opposed to what the White House is doing here.”

She accuses President Trump of favoring fossil fuels over renewable fuels.

“All ethanol wants is an even playing field. They want to be able to have some predictability and some sense of what’s going on. And at the very least, EPA should be transparent about what refineries are being allowed to not doing the blending of renewable (fuels).”

Last week the EPA suspended plans to publish the names of refineries securing exemptions from the RFS.

Smith says the White House and the oil industry pushed for that suspension.
