EPA Ag Advisor says administration remains committed to biofuels

EPA’s Senior Agriculture Advisor says the Biden administration is committed to expanding biofuels use to help increase America’s energy independence.

Rod Snyder says the administration is making it a priority to strengthen the Renewable Fuel Standard and releasing timely blending requirements for refiners. “We have an opportunity to look at how we bring responsible growth to the program overall. Continue to grow a portfolio of domestically produced biofuels going forward and making sure the RFS can deliver on what Congress intended.”

EPA has until November to set a final rule for 2023 Renewable Volume Obligations.

He tells Brownfield the agency is updating its modeling for greenhouse gas emissions. “We’re taking steps to figure out how we can update that knowing that the industry has changed a lot in the last decade. Ethanol production and the feed stock production has become efficient during that time, and we have an opportunity to reflect that going forward.”

Brownfield interviewed Snyder at the 2022 ACE Annual Conference in Omaha, NE.
