EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt resigns

Scott Pruitt has resigned as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

President Trump announced via Twitter that he accepted Pruitt’s resignation Thursday, and that Deputy Secretary Andrew Wheeler will assume duties as acting Administrator on Monday.

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings tells Brownfield the way Pruitt fumbled the ethanol issue with farmers ultimately brought him down.

“Time and time again, we saw the White House and President specifically make very specific promises.  And time and time again, we saw the EPA Administrator either fail to make good on those promises, or do the complete opposite of what the President had promised.”

With deputy administrator Wheeler stepping into Pruitt’s role, Jennings says Wheeler is familiar with the Renewable Fuel Standard from his time on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee under Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe.  Jennings describes Wheeler as someone who respects the rule of law and the role of Congress.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says Pruitt’s tenure put a heavy strain on the Trump Administration’s relationship with supporters, farmers, and biofuel producers across the heartland.

American Farm Bureau policy specialist Will Rodger tells Brownfield the EPA will be in good hands under Acting Administrator Wheeler.  Rodger says the organization is confident that the good progress that’s been made in rescinding the WOTUS rule will continue.

National Corn Growers Association president and North Dakota farmer Kevin Skunes says it was no secret NCGA has been frustrated by Scott Pruitt’s actions over the past year.  He says the Association will continue pushing EPA to stop granting unjustified RFS waivers.
