Election leaves more questions than answers

The midterm election results are unclear, meaning control of the committees and the direction of the next farm bill are also unclear.

There are several close races in the House that have not been determined as of Wednesday morning, but Republicans are expected to have a net gain of five or six seats, giving them control of the House and likely giving Glenn GT Thompson the ag committee gavel.

Senate Ag Committee Ranking Member John Boozman of Arkansas won re-election Tuesday, but Republicans did not get the red wave they were hoping for, meaning Michigan Democrat Debbie Stabenow will likely retain her position as the ag committee chair.

Democrats flipped retiring Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey’s seat with a victory by John Fetterman over Dr. Mehmet Oz, and races in Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia were too close to call Wednesday morning.  Georgia might be heading for a second straight runoff election to determine a winner.
