Economist expects pork export rebound in ‘23

An ag economist says she’s optimistic about the outlook for US pork exports this year.

Erin Borror with the US Meat Export Federation says exports started to rally toward the end of 2022. “We expect about a 5% rebound in US pork exports,” she said at the 2023 Iowa Pork Congress on Wednesday. “And some easing of the headwinds that we’ve been facing.”

She tells Brownfield purchasing power is picking up steam despite economic challenges. “We have the US dollar well off its early November highs,” Borror said. “We have a rebound in the Japanese yen and Korean won by about 13% compared to early November.”

Borror says the nation continues to see broad-based growth in its pork export portfolio. Her full interview with Brownfield can be found below.
