Eastern Iowa farmer having fantastic harvest compared to last year

An eastern Iowa farmer says harvest is off to a good start, especially compared to a year ago.

“Harvest 2021 has been fantastic compared to last year Harvest 2020 with the derecho.”

Lance Lillibridge of Vinton tells Brownfield he’s harvested a couple hundred acres of soybeans and a few hundred acres of corn.

“We’re pleasantly surprised at the yields so far, however I will say they are less than probably what we would’ve liked to have seen. But we were expecting much less and they’re doing well.”

He says expectations were subdued by a lack of moisture during the growing season and heavy corn rootworm pressure.

Lillibridge is president of the Iowa Corn Growers Association.
