Eastern Iowa farmer bullish on yield as harvest nears

A farmer in eastern Iowa expects soybean harvest to begin later this week.

Pete Brecht of Central City says the crop has come along nicely.

“I think a lot of folks are looking at 250 bushel corn and probably 70-plus bushel beans.”

He tells Brownfield the season started late and crops haven’t quite caught up.

“We’re just a little behind where we’d like to be, and we got a little bit dry a couple times. But I can’t complain, we’ve got a great-looking crop here in eastern Iowa.”

Brecht says with input costs expected to be even higher next year, it’s critical this year’s crop is a good one.
