Early corn dent and sunflowers bloom in SD

South Dakota’s corn started to dent the last week of July.

USDA says 1% of the crop is dented, ahead of average. There’s 19% of the crop in dough stage and corn conditions are 51% good to excellent. South Dakota’s soybean crop is rated 51% good to excellent with 45% of the soybeans setting pods.

Winter wheat harvest is about 75% complete, in-line with the average pace and spring wheat harvest is at 21% complete with conditions rated 42% fair.

South Dakota’s sorghum conditions are rated 54% good to excellent with 9% of the crop coloring, ahead of average. Sunflower conditions are rated 42% good to excellent with 20% of the crop blooming.

USDA says South Dakota’s pasture and rangeland conditions are rated 53% poor to very poor.
