E15 usage continues to grow

The ethanol advocacy group Growth Energy says drivers across the U.S. have now logged more than one billion miles on E15, the blend of 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline.

Using EPA data, the group also calculates the availability of E15 could save consumers up to 72 million dollars by the end of 2017. That’s because E15 is cheaper than E10, a dime a gallon less in most cases.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says E15’s proven performance, environmental benefits and savings to consumers are all reasons why Congress should fix the Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) law. That law prevents E15 from being used in many parts of the country during the summer season, except in flex-fuel vehicles.

The EPA approves E15 for use in any vehicle manufactured since 2001, which Growth Energy says equates to 9 out of 10 cars on the road today. Automakers also approve E15 for use in nearly three-quarters of new cars.

E15 is currently sold at more than 800 retail outlets across 29 states.
