Duvall: American Farm Bureau looks forward to working with Trump Administration

American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall tells Brownfield the organization is pleased with the election of Donald Trump because it’s a change in Washington, D.C. politics.

“I think this gives us great opportunity to work with someone that thinks a lot like we do on a lot of issues,” said Duvall in an interview with Brownfield Ag News.  “Of course there are some issues that are going to be challenging for us.”

Among the challenging issues is the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.  Duvall says its ratification is important to U.S. farmers, but President-elect Trump has listed the withdrawal from the trade deal as one of his priorities in the first 100 days of his presidency.

“If Mr. Trump has a better idea how to make trade better for all Americans, then we’re going to be a teammate to help him make that happen,” said Duvall, “but we want to make sure that agriculture is a winner in any trade treaty.”

Senate leaders on both sides of the aisle have said the TPP will not come up in the Lame Duck session.
