Dunning: Missouri broadband money will help

Eleven providers are the successful bidders that will share 255-Million-dollars from the federal government to improve broadband access in rural Missouri.

Janie Dunning, broadband consultant for the Missouri Farm Bureau, says two-thirds of the state does not have adequate broadband and this money will help, “Any time that much money comes to the state of Missouri for something as important as broadband we need to be grateful and we need to be thrilled about it.”

Dunning told state Farm Bureau members last week that the providers have agreed to provide 100 megabits per second. She says there are naysayers who don’t believe that high speed can be achieved, “There’s others said, yes they can. But what it will take is more stations close to the users to provide those speeds consistently to all they say they’re going to provide it to.”

Dunning says she agrees with Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst who says fiber optics is the best way, the “gold standard.” The chosen providers can use wireless or fiber optics.
