Dryness hurts IL crop conditions

Illinois’ crop condition ratings dropped last week.

Corn is rated 70 percent good to excellent, down one percent on the week.

Ninety-six percent of Illinois’ soybean crop has emerged, slightly ahead of the average. Soybeans are rated 66 percent good to excellent, slightly down on the week.

Illinois’ winter wheat harvest is ahead with two thirds of the crop out. The remaining crop is rated 68 percent good to excellent.

Pasture conditions in the state dropped last week but are nearly all fair or better; 51 percent rated good, and 10 percent rated excellent. Ground conditions are much dryer than last week; topsoil moisture is 68 percent adequate and one percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is 70 percent adequate.
