Dry weather in Nebraska impacting winter wheat

Nebraska’s winter wheat crop is showing the effects of dry weather.

The USDA says 34% of the crop is in good to excellent shape, down 3% on the month and 25% below a year ago, with 18% called poor to very poor, up 3% from last month and 8% more than last year.

60% of topsoil and 64% of subsoil in Nebraska are short to very short of soil moisture, significantly more than a year ago.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
