Dry Bean harvest makes headway

Early harvest of corn and soybeans is underway while dry bean growers are nearly halfway finished in Michigan.

The USDA says corn condition improved to 63 percent good to excellent with 90 percent dented and 39 percent mature.  Corn silage harvest reached 57 percent.

Soybeans improved to 58 percent good to excellent with 70 percent dropping leaves.  Dry beans are 54 percent good to excellent and 42 percent harvested, ahead of last year and up from 9 percent the prior week.  Sugarbeets are 16 percent harvested.

More of the state is starting to harvest apples with good size and color reported.
