Doud hopes Trump-Xi meeting will lead to more discussions

USTR chief ag negotiator Gregg Doud cautions that the meeting later this month in Argentina between President Trump and Chinese President Xi may not produce immediate results.

But he’s hopeful it will lead to substantive meetings down the road.

“We have got a lot of work in that relationship to get it where it needs to be,” Doud says, “My hope is that it leads to another conversation that leads to another conversation, that we can begin to make some progress here. To sit down and talk about intellectual property, forced technology transfer—regimes that allow China to play by the rules.”

Doud made his comments at the farm broadcasting convention in Kansas City.
