Don’t over-plant this spring
The operations manager of the On-Farm Network in Iowa is urging soybean growers not to overplant this spring.
Rich Stessman says the Network gathers data to help farmers make input decisions.
“If you’re using a seed drop that is excessively high, obviously you’re investing in seed that you don’t necessarily need to plant.”
He says population trials show stands of 90 to 100,000 plants per-acre result in maximum yields.
“We have a repository of the outcome of those trials on an online database on our ISA website. Farmers can go in there and browse through the different product comparisons that we have in that particular database.”
