Domestic dairy demand remains strong through pandemic uncertainties

A dairy analyst says increases to dairy prices at the consumer level haven’t been as dramatic as other products and it’s benefited demand.

Ben Laine with Rabobank tells Brownfield, “For now things are going relatively well and I think that dairy has benefited from being among the worst cost increases that consumers face.”

Laine says it remains to be seen when price increases will be impacted, but for now, it has not been a limiting factor for dairy.

And, he says the dairy industry is better positioned for future restrictions which could come with continued COVID outbreaks.

“We’ve got the tools now to be able to adjust and make sure the consumer still can get the products they’re demanding,” he says.

Laine is calling for optimistic dairy prices in the coming year.
