Disaster bill stalls in House

The comprehensive disaster aid bill that passed the Senate Thursday failed today in the U.S. House by one vote.

Republican Congressman Chip Roy of Texas said the bill does not contain anything, in his words, “to address the clear national emergency and humanitarian crisis” at the southern border. Roy called for a roll call vote but with most members out for the holiday weekend, that couldn’t happen.

The $19 Billion dollar package would be used to rebuild and repair infrastructure in areas affected by flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes and wildfires.  It reportedly has been tabled until at least next week with another vote possible the week of June 3rd.

The disaster aid bill includes payments to farmers whose stored corn and soybeans that have been damaged by flooding this spring.
