Dicamba application deadline approaching in Illinois

The June 20th application deadline for dicamba herbicides in Illinois is quickly approaching.

BASF Agronomist Kurt Maertens tells Brownfield in these final days it is important to follow other application rules as well.

“Remember we also have the temperature restriction so if it is forecasted to be 85 degrees or warmer for that day we cannot make those applications. We want to be using the correct nozzles and always being aware of what is surrounding our fields- especially downwind. There are just a few more days to make those applications.”

He says BASF’s dicamba based herbicide Engenia is designed to spray on Xtend and XtendFlex soybeans to control weeds like waterhemp when it is small, with less than three inches being ideal.

Other dicamba products include Bayer’s XtendiMax and Syngenta’s Tavium. Corteva’s FeXapan label expired prior to the 2021 growing season and was not renewed.
