DFA buys Guida’s Milk & Ice Cream

Dairy Farmers of America has purchased Guida’s Milk and Ice Cream of New Britain, Connecticut. The family-owned dairy had sales of about $140 million last year throughout Southern New England. Jim Guida said the sale gave some family members a chance to liquidate their shares in the company plus it puts the dairy on a large scale to compete with the likes of H.P. Hood and Dean Foods. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Guida will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of DFA maintaining current leadership.

Based in Kansas City, Dairy Farmers of America is a farmer-owned cooperative with 16,000 members and employs more than 3,000.
