Depopulation continues at Wisconsin egg producer

State and federal officials continue to manage a Jefferson County, Wisconsin farm struck by highly pathogenic avian influenza.

Kevin Hoffman with the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection tells Brownfield depopulation is underway in at least two barns, but he is not sure how long the process will take.

Officials adjusted the population of the flock from nearly three million down to 2.75 million birds.  Wisconsin officials say they have no new cases of avian influenza in the state as of Friday.

The disease was confirmed in some of the laying hens a week ago, and the farm is under a no-movement order for hens and eggs to keep the disease from spreading.
