Delayed crop emergence in the Bootheel

A farmer in the Missouri Bootheel says the cool conditions are delaying crop emergence.

Rance Daniels says some of his rice fields have good stands, but others are coming up slowly. He says warm temperatures and more rain would be welcome.

“We’ve got some timely rains, but it’s kind of been drier than normal,” he says. “We could have used more rainfall and warmer temperatures would have been helpful to get the rice crop up and growing.”

Daniels also raises soybeans.

“I think the soybeans think it’s really early in the spring. They don’t want to come up.”

Daniels farms near Reeds, Missouri.
