Deere reports sales increases, but not in ag equipment

Deere and Company is reporting net sales increases for their 4th quarter and the full year, but not in the ag equipment sector.  A company report says the fourth-quarter net income of 722 million was less than the same quarter a year ago.  Construction and forestry equipment sales remained strong.

CEO John C. May says John Deere’s performance reflected continued uncertainties in the agricultural sector and that trade tensions coupled with difficult growing and harvesting conditions have caused farmers to be cautious about major equipment investments.

Deere says the fourth-quarter decline was caused by higher production, selling, and administrative costs as well as the unfavorable effects of currency exchange and higher research and development expenses.

Deere is projecting another decline of between five and ten percent in worldwide ag equipment sales for 2020.
