December mostly seasonal in Indiana

Conditions in Indiana were seasonal for most of December.

The USDA says after a mild start to the month, average statewide temperatures ended up a little bit above usual levels, but most of Indiana did experience a bitterly cold snap around Christmas, which was accompanied by improved precipitation, boosting soil moisture levels.

Despite that late-month drop in temperatures, livestock is reportedly doing well and the winter wheat conditions were nearly unchanged, with 62% of the crop called good to excellent.

The USDA’s next set of state crop and weather stories is out January 31st.
