December ethanol exports down on month, year

U.S. ethanol exports fell sharply in December.

The Renewable Fuels Association says ethanol shipments hit a 17-month low at 74.2 million gallons, 9% less than November and a drop of 41% from December 2021. That’s due to trade barriers, uncertainties about global economic growth, and increased domestic production in a handful of nations that were previously big U.S. customers, including Brazil, the European Union, and India. Canada took the top slot for the 21st month in a row, followed by the Philippines and Jamaica.

December ethanol imports were 2.2 million gallons, all from Brazil.

Exports of distillers dried grains with solubles were a three-month high at 887,433 tons, up 22% on the month, led by Mexico, South Korea, and Colombia.

For 2022, U.S. ethanol exports were 1.35 billion gallons, the fourth largest year on record, with imports of 79.3 million gallons, a jump of 36% from 2021, while DDGS exports totaled 11 million tons, up 4% on the year.
