December corn for ethanol use down 10% on year

Corn for ethanol use consumption continues to be impacted by lower blending demand caused by COVID-19.

The USDA says 430.440 million bushels of corn were used for fuel alcohol production in December 2020, 1% less than in November 2020 and 10% below December 2019.

That slowdown in ethanol production is also cutting production of a major feed component, distillers dried grains with solubles, with DDGS production at 1,784,208 tons, a decrease of 1% on the month and 7% on the year.

The USDA’s next corn for ethanol use estimate is out February 9th.
