Decarbonizing the transportation sector
When it comes to reducing the transportation sector’s carbon footprint, the director of federal affairs with Clean Fuels Alliance America says it’s not biofuels versus electric vehicles.
David Cobb tells Brownfield, “it’s going to take everybody. Electric is part of it, but we think (biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel) are going to be part of the solution for a very long time.”
He says biodiesel and renewable diesel are low-carbon fuel options that are available today. He uses the heavy-duty sector as an example.
“We don’t see (that sector) going electric anytime soon, if ever. Rail, maritime, aviation may never be electrified at all,” he says. “We see a long, long future for clean fuels including on-road fuels.”
Brownfield interviewed Cobb during the recent High Performance Low Carbon Liquid Fuels Summit in Speedway, Indiana.
