Dayton says the time for pointing fingers is over

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton says it’s time to stop placing blame in addressing the state’s water quality issues as he continues gathering public input on the problem.

In Mankato Wednesday night, Dayton provided opening remarks during the second in a series of town hall meetings and participated in multiple breakout discussions.

Following the event, the Governor told reporters the feedback from concerned citizens is encouraging.

“It was very much a spirit of people listening to one another (and) as someone said earlier, not pointing fingers (and) saying we’re all in this together and how can we work together?”

Dayton’s charge to Minnesotans is that every citizen has a role in improving water quality in the state.

He tells Brownfield while rules and regulations have their place, it’s not the solution.

The Governor also touted incentives for agriculture.

“We’ve got federal and state funding provided by the Legislature to provide financial assistance to farmers who are making these conversions who incur costs.  So again, that’s a role we all have to play is to help finance this transition.”

The town hall meetings are part of Dayton’s 25 by 25 initiative to improve water quality in Minnesota 25 percent by the year 2025.
