Dairy farmers are holding-on to those cows

National Ag Statistic Service reports 229,000 dairy cows sent to slaughter in August, 5,000 less than in July and 37,000 less than August of last year.  From January through August, 1.85 million dairy cows have been slaughtered under Federal inspection, 233,000 less than what was sent during the same period in 2013.  As of the end of August, the U.S. dairy herd was up 47,000 head from August of 2013 as the high milk prices are encouraging producers to keep more cows.
