Dairy Expo connects dairy producers with experts, peers

The president of the Missouri Dairy Association calls this “a very challenging time of economic conditions caused by depressed milk prices.”  Dairy farmer Ted Sheppard of Cabool, Missouri, says it’s an important time to share ideas and meet dairy producers at the Heart of America Dairy Expo.  Sheppard chairs the event, including a sold-out trade show, that opens Thursday, January 18, and runs through Saturday in Springfield, Missouri.  Association Executive Director Dave Drennan says dairy farmers will get hands on information they can use on the farm.  “The keynote speaker Friday is Dr. Mark Stephenson from the University of Wisconsin discussing ‘The Changing Landscape of Dairy,’” said Drennan.

Other Expo speakers will discuss dairy nutrition, milk production, dairy policy and consumer communications, said Sheppard.  Among the speakers at the Expo is dairy specialist Mike Hutjens from the University of Illinois, talking about the roles of minerals and vitamins in dairy rations.”

A new feature added this year is an FFA Ag Career Day on Thursday afternoon open to all FFA chapters and 4-H youth in Missouri and surrounding states.
