Dairy economist encouraged by strong demand

A dairy economist is not concerned about a drop in dairy consumption because of the upcoming end of a pandemic food program.  Mark Stephenson with the University of Wisconsin Center for Dairy Profitability tells Brownfield the Farmers to Families Food Box Program is not finished yet. “We’ve still got a couple more months yet of food box purchases, and then we’ve got a few other mechanisms that will come into play.”

Stephenson says he is also encouraged by strong, continuing demand for dairy, especially from the restaurant pipeline. “Between retail and restaurant trades, our sales have been holding up very nicely. We’ll have to watch and see how it evolves, but so far, so good.”

Stephenson also expects farmer milk prices to remain strong this year because of expected export sales.

  • Well now, all of us dairy farmers don’t have to worry about whether there is enough money to cover our expenses . Evet thing is going to be coming up roses !!!
