CRP Payments issued for nearly 22 million acres

The USDA is issuing payments for nearly 22 million acres enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program, CRP. Farmers and landowners in the program will start receiving the payments, totaling more than 1-and-a-half Billion dollars.

The USDA says the CRP has prevented more than 9-Billion tons of soil from eroding, reduced nitrogen and phosphorous runoff upwards of 85 percent compared to tilled cropland and sequestered an annual average of nearly 50 million tons of greenhouse gases. The CRP turns 35 in December.
