CRP enrollment totals shows down acreage

The first general Conservation Reserve Program enrollment period of the year has ended with acreage down sharply from 2021.

The USDA accepted two million acres of land into CRP from the end of January to March 11. Producers re-enrolled more than half of the 3.4 million expiring CRP acres, about even with last year. But USDA says new offers for land under general CRP came in around 400,000 acres, about 300,000 acres below 2021.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack is encouraging landowners to consider signing up for the now open Grassland and Continuous programs.
