Crops stable and maturing ahead of average

Most of Michigan experienced hot, humid weather this past week as drought conditions continue to improve.  Less than four percent of the state is in moderate to severe drought. 

Corn condition held steady with 79 percent of the crop rated in good to excellent condition. Ninety-seven percent of corn is silking, and 41 percent is in the dough stage. 
 
Soybeans were also again steady with 72 of the crop being rated good to excellent. Ninety-six percent of soybeans are blooming, and 84 percent are setting pods. 

Nearly all winter wheat is harvested, and dry beans are 78 percent blooming. 

Summer fruit harvest is ongoing with peaches in the south expected to be picked soon.  Vegetable growers continue to control pests and diseases with eggplant and bell pepper harvest on the horizon.
