Crop conditions see improvement

Variable conditions remain in Michigan with dryness spreading through the southeast, the Thumb, and east central regions.

The USDA says corn condition improved slightly to 66 percent good to excellent, with 92 percent in the dough stage and 51 percent dented while corn silage harvest reached 16 percent.

Soybeans are rated 66 percent good to excellent with 20 percent dropping leaves.  Dry beans improved to 55 percent good to excellent.  Sugarbeets are four percent harvested.

Apple growers are preparing for the full fall harvest and peach, potato, tomato, sweet corn, and other vegetable harvests continue.
