Cover crop payment program deadline approaching

The deadline for farmers to qualify for the federal Pandemic Cover Crop Program is Tuesday. producers must fill out the Farm Service Agency’s Report of Acreage form to apply.

USDA says producers will automatically receive the benefit by filling out the form at their local FSA office. Farmers will need to provide information like cover crop type, acreage, approximate mapping of the area and planting dates.

USDA says the PCCP provides premium support to producers who insured their spring crop with most insurance policies. The premium support is $5 per acre with no more than the full premium owed.
