Corn planting underway in Kansas

Corn planting is underway in Kansas.

In its first crop condition and rating report of 2023, the USDA says corn is 1 percent planted, on par with the five-year average and 1 percent behind a year ago.

Winter wheat is considered just 16 percent good to excellent with crop development a little ahead of normal.

Topsoil moisture supplies are rated 73 percent short to very short and subsoil moisture is 80 percent short to very short.
